The goal may not be the success of the Shorts themselves, but as a way to get attention to your channel. I think YouTube Shorts are a means to an end. This didn’t take long with each video being a minute or less. On some Shorts, I would record a voiceover into GarageBand and then edit the video together. I filmed a variety of content just using my phone. So I threw my hat in the ring and uploaded a Short every day for 30 days. With the announcement of YouTube Shorts, it seems like something more up my alley - and much more manageable. I love YouTube, but I’m not about to start filming and editing videos as I know what a massive undertaking it is. One is a health podcast, and the other is a pop culture/nostalgia show.
Now, I use the podcast host Libsyn, which automatically uploads new podcast episodes to my different YouTube channels. This was pretty mind-blowing considering it takes minimal effort. I would get a lot of clicks back to my blog, and people telling me they discovered me on my YouTube channel. This isn’t a success based on many people’s standards, but some of these “videos” were getting thousands of views. I understand the importance of thumbnails so I would take some time to create a decent one using Canva.įrom there, I would just add details of the episode in the video description, and link back to my blog and podcast. I take the MP3 file and just upload it to YouTube with a new thumbnail image.

This is to encourage the use of quick uploads from cellphones and also to have them primarily be viewed on them, too. If you are unaware of YouTube Shorts, they are video clips of 58 seconds or less, shot in the vertical video format. This seems to be a direct way to compete with the enormous popularity of TikTok. YouTube has also adopted this approach with its YouTube Shorts. They are geared to play into our low attention span and need for quick, consumable content.
